Here’s the weekly roundup of the Bearcats’ opponents this season. It’s about as you would expect so far.
UCLA – The Bruins lost a PAC-12 Conference game to Arizona 20-17. This drops UCLA to 1-4.
Ohio State – It turns out the Bearcats defense is amazing because the 42 points the Buckeyes scored on the Bearcats is their lowest total of the season so far. The #5 Buckeyes boiled the Cornhuskers in Lincoln Nebraska to the tune of 48-7.
Miami (OH) – The Redhawks looked strong against Buffalo beating them 34-20 and are now 2-3.
Marshall – Check the recap here
Central Florida – The Knights executed the Huskies on Saturday in the last Civil Conflict 56-21. The Knights now 4-1 and visit Nippert this Friday night. Although they lost last week to Pitt the game holds huge conference implications. Not to mention UCF is ranked #18 in the AP this week giving the Bearcats a crack at a top 20 team, at home. I hope to see you there. Here’s the highlights if you want to watch a murder.
Houston – Have the Cougars gotten back on track? Who knows because they beat the pants off of North Texas to move to 2-3.
Tulsa – 2-2 had the weekend off from play.
ECU – Don’t look now but the Pirates are 3-2 after they slid by Old Dominion 24-21.
UConn – The farewell tour continues as the Huskies get trampled by the Knights.
South Florida – A team that continues to get less and less impressive by the week suffered another loss (48-21) on the season, this time to undefeated SMU. The Bulls are now 1-3.
Temple – The Owls beat a “Power 5” team in Georgia Tech 24-2 on Saturday. The Owls are now 3-1 and added another win for the American against a P5 school. It’s my firm belief that the UC Bearcats should replace Georgia Tech in the ACC.
Memphis – is the only other AAC team that received votes this week in the AP, effectively making them #27. They took on conference foe Navy in a Friday night game that saw the Midshipmen come out strong but lose steam as the Tigers clawed their way to a 35-23 win.
Notable Teams in the American
SMU – The Mustangs are easily the biggest surprise in the American so far this season. The Ponies are officially ranked this week for the first time since 1986. I’m officially hoping on the bandwagon. SMU isn’t on the Bearcats schedule this year so I hope they win every week until the Bearcats undoubtedly play them in the AAC Championship game.
