Here’s the weekly roundup of the Bearcats’ opponents this season. Tides are changing in the American.
UCLA – lost to Oregon State and are now 1-5.
Ohio State – The Buckeyes took care of their third B10 opponent in Michigan State and are now 6-0.
Miami (OH) – Had the week off after beating Buffalo the week before, 2-3.
Marshall – The Thundering Herd continued their slide with a 24-13 loss to Middle Tennessee. They move to 2-3.
Central Florida – The Knights got got.
Houston – The Cougars had the week off but that didn’t stop them from falling part. The Cougars did not get off to the start that most people expected this season and are currently sitting at 2-3 with losses to Oklahoma, Washington State, and Tulane.
This thread from previous Cougars O-lineman Justin Murphy, a guy who started the season on the team and started one game, is interesting to say the least.
So are the Cougars tanking? Arguably the best offensive player in the conference is red shirting, according to Murphy its to load up on talent for next season. All I know for sure is that the Bearcats have a business trip in Houston on Saturday.
Tulsa – The Golden Hurricane (2-3) was involved in maybe the most dramatic game of the AAC season. They traveled to Dallas to take on undefeated and #21 SMU. Tulsa jumped out to a 30-9 lead in a game that eventually went to 3 OTs. It was wild 3 missed field goals, a fumble recovery for a TD for the kickoff team but the Mustangs emerged victorious to remain undefeated. Highlights below.
ECU – The Pirates lost to divisional rival Temple 27-17. The Pirates are now 3-3 with their best win coming over…William & Mary.
UConn – The Mutts are 1-4 and lost to South Florida 48-22.
South Florida – The Bulls are now 2-3 after beating down UConn. USF still has a lot of work to do but good news for them is that they are now tied with UCF at 1-1 in conference play.
Temple – The Owls beat down ECU to move to 4-1 and will be a threat coming into Nippert on November 23rd. First, we’ll see how they handle UCF in Philly at the end of October.
Memphis – The Tigers are quietly 5-0 with their best win over Ole Miss. The west division of this conference is tough and I would still have to believe the road to the conference championship game goes down Beale St but SMU and Tulane might have other thoughts.
Notable Teams in the American
SMU – Are the Mustangs a team of destiny? Sure Tulsa went into panic mode and fully adopted the “play not to lose” mentality but maybe SMU is just legit.
Tulane – The Green Wave have only lost to #10 Auburn and manhandled Army 42-33 last weekend. Tulane is now 4-1 with UConn up next. The 19th however we’ll see what they’re made of as they travel to Memphis.
