Friday night was one for the ages in Clifton Heights. Sitting here Wednesday night I’ve realized I had a crazy weekend and an ever crazier week so far but I couldn’t skip a B&B this week after that game on Friday night. I know it’s late but why not live it one more time.
The Tailgate.
From the time I arrived in Clifton for the tailgate I noticed something was a little different. Maybe it was the Friday night start, maybe I was just tired from a long day and had to slam a red bull to prepare for a long night but something was different. It dawned on me as I started to walk to Nippert that there we so many people tailgating. It seemed like twice as many as usual if not more. Regardless, it was still fun and the Happy Hour theme at The Den went over very well.
The Game.
Beer lines were long, bathroom lines were longer, and the crowd at Historic Nippert Stadium was electric. Nippert was essentially a black hole and it ate every Knight in site. I don’t need to break anything down for you Xs and Os style, I’m not great at that to begin with. What I have done is put together two clips posted on twitter that you have to watch. They happen in order and explain the entire game.
To win that game the Bearcats had to keep Central Florida from jumping out to a big lead. The Knights love to put teams in a hole early and make them try to play catch up. After the first two possessions from UCF you could tell Bearcats knew that too.
Cut to, The Sauce, this is a phenomenal angle of a phenomenal play with a phenomenal call by Dan and Jim that turned the tides of the game.
The Bearcats Mood posted this sequence on defense that directly followed that pick 6. This sequence is a microcosm of the whole game. The Black Cats getting things done, feeding off of that energy, harnessing it, and then doing it all over again.
I’ve been to a lot of games at Nippert since 2007. The last game to rival the atmosphere of this past Friday night was probably 2009 West Virginia and I’d probably give the nod to this game.
Oh yeah, we’re ranked #25. That’ll continue to go up.
Central Florida’s football team took their second L of the night when GoBearcats posted this doozy.
Beer of the Game.
For this football season the featured beer, ideally, will be from the same area as the team the Bearcats are playing and as always a beer I’ve tried.
Next Up.
The UC Bearcats travel to Houston to take on the Cougars on Saturday at 3:30pm. I hope to see you at Taft’s Brewpourium for the BCJ Watch Party.
Houston has not lived up to the preseason hype. Their best player and probably the best offensive player in the conference, D’Eriq King isn’t playing anymore this year, their defense is terrible, and their O line is filled with inexperience. If the Bearcats play their brand they’ll get the W. My prediction is 35-17 Bearcats.
After the Bearcats travel to Houston the next set of games look like this:
- Tulsa at Nippert
- at ECU
- UConn at Nippert
- at South Florida.
You have to think if the Bearcats take care of business on Saturday they’re sitting pretty for a while and in complete command of their division.
See you at Taft’s on Saturday at 3:30pm!
