I’ve heard nothing but good things about Third Eye Brewing since they opened last June. Since they opened they’ve expanded into canning and distributing throughout Cincinnati. After having several of their beers that I picked up at Root Cellar I knew I had to check the taproom out to see what else they offered. A couple of days ago I finally made it and was very impressed.
Third Eye Brewing is located at 11276 Chester Rd. Sharonville, OH 45246. Third Eye is a decently sized place with a big parking lot. I wasn’t sure what to expect in this regard but seating wasn’t an issue. Multiple outside seating options surround the inner taproom, some covered, some not. The open patio has it’s own bar behind a rollup window for those nice sunny days ahead. The taproom itself has two main seating areas, the biggest being closest to the bar. The exposed brick, wood working, and windows give the place warm vibes, even on a cooler, rainy Saturday. Of course the first thing that grabs your attention is the huge mural above the bar in the taproom. If you’ve been paying attention to the craft beer scene in Cincy, you’ve seen it.
Seating arrangements were socially distanced and plastic guards were up where necessary. Limited seats were marked off at the bar itself but the floor had plenty of options.
If you’re hungry Third Eye has you covered. They offer appetizers to main courses on a small but elaborate menu. I didn’t order food this time but I’ll check out the wings next time around.
Since seeing some of their beer in cans and being very impressed, I put visiting Third Eye towards the top of my list in terms of my next visit. On my visit they had 16 taps to choose from. Luckily, they were still serving flights so on this first visit I had two. The first, completely picked by the bartender, the second picked by me. It was hard to choose but here are the three that stood out to me for one reason or another.
3. Total Debockery – It’s still bock season, right? This 8.6% big bock delivers on an under appreciated beer style. It’s malty in aroma and flavor. It’s sweet but not too sweet and is brewed in collaboration with Krampuslauf Zinzinnati and a portion of proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati. You gotta love it. 4/5
2. Mind Juicer – a double NE IPA that checks in at 8.6% will leave your palate wanting more. It’s brewed with a new hop from Michigan, the Mackinac variety which showcases huge aromas of ripe melon, citrus, and papaya as well as big, fresh, juicy flavors. All of which are a spot on in this hazy. I’m not the biggest fan of the hazys but this one did it for me. 4/5
1. Jelly Brain v4 – Vanilla creaminess with dragon fruit, tart Meyer lemon, and delicious strawberry makes this milkshake IPA a must try. I was surprised at how much I loved this beer. I’m usually a fan of milkshake IPAs but this one was different. It’s strawberry color threw me off a little but it didn’t disappoint. It’s a cool 7.2% and 23 IBUs. 4.25/5
Honorable Mention: I usually only limit the beer section to three beers but I couldn’t not mention this beer.
Astral – Chocolate Marshmallow Stout – This beer checks in at 7.4% and 33 IBUs. It’s brewed with Peeps. Yeah the marshmallow bunnies or chicks that are in stores around Easter. Never mind your opinion of the candy, this beer is chocolatey early and finishes with a nice marshmallow finish. It’ll slap your palate around until it decides it needs another sip.
If you’re looking for a young brewery with a wall of awards and hardware this is the place for you. The beer offerings are diverse in style but not in quality. Third Eye has been turning heads since it’s opening and I’m excited to see what’s next for them. They certainly have the beer part down. If you’re looking for a time to visit the taproom and with a group of people who need more options than just beer I’d highly recommend checking the place out on a Sunday. Sundays are dog friendly days (the only day it’s dog friendly) and on top of that they offer a bloody Mary/mimosa bar.
Third Eye is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, hours vary the rest of the week.
