I’ve had a lot of beers from West Side Brewing. They can a handful of different beers and I’ve tried almost all of them. I love their double IPA, a beer I featured for the beer of the game once during football season. (For each Bearcats game, football and basketball, I pick a Cincinnati area beer to highlight and drink during the game.) I decided after trying all of their canned beers I needed to go see what else they had to offer and experience the brewery first hand.
West Side Brewing is located at 3044 Harrison Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45211 in the heart of the west side of Cincinnati. They have on and off street parking and sit right on the corner of the Harrison and Ruehlman. No patio is available but their windows slide open on nicer days. It was raining when I was there so I didn’t get to experience this first hand but the pictures look cool on Instagram and give the taproom an open feeling.
The Taproom is big with plenty of seating on either side of the centrally located bar. TV’s are all around to make it easy for watching your sporting event of choice. People were getting pretty into a soccer match when I was there. The taproom is super clean. You can sit at tables or seats at the bar.
West Side had something on tap for everyone. On that Saturday they had 18 different beers on tap. Here’s my breakdown of my favorite ones I tried when I was there.
3. Scottish Ale – At an easy drinking 5.3% you could drink this beer all the time. It’s malty and sweet with a little earthiness mixed in. 3.5/5
2. Juicy Session IPA – With an ABV of 4.6% its certainly a session. It’s light but packed with flavor from being double dry hopped. It’s very smooth with a slight bitter finish. I haven’t seen this one in cans but if it makes its way down the canning line its the perfect tailgate beer. 3.75/5.
1.Blood Orange Double IPA – I love West Side’s DIPA. It’s in cans and available a lot of places. If you’re a hop head like myself you won’t regret it. The blood orange is that beer infused with blood oranges. It’s just as delicious as the original with a hint of Spring in every sip. Watch out because even though this beer is a solid 9.3% ABV you’ll still want another one, and another one. 4.25/5.
I was very impressed with West Side overall and after visiting their taproom and experiencing more of their beer the word underrated comes to mind. The taproom takes you to a place unlike many others. The beer is delicious, creative, and will exceed your expectations not matter your favorite style. If you’re a Cincinnatian or not from Cincinnati at all and coming to town for a visit, seek this place out. The west side is known for many things, I added West Side Brewing to that list after my visit.
Before you go check them out online.
