On Saturday, November 23, 2019, the Temple Owls visited Cincinnati for the final home game of the Bearcats Football season. It was another rainy day, following a long week of storms, soaking the grounds on Sigma Sigma Commons. The tailgate scene on-campus that day was unlike others that season with most electing to pregame off-campus on surrounding parking lots or in bars/restaurants. The Den’s “Bearcat Tailgater” parked behind Dive Bar that day, watched the Bearcats survive the Owls’ 15-12, then hitched a truck and went back into storage for the winter. 652 days later, the Tailgater will return to campus for the first game of the most anticipated season in program history.
That, of course, means I t’s time for the 7th Season of The Den Tailgate, one of UC’s largest alumni fan groups and tailgate scenes. If you’re unfamiliar with The Den, you can find us near alley spot #5 of The Grid (Sigma Sigma Commons). We have open membership, asking just $20 for a tailgate “season pass” or $5 for single games. What do we provide in return? All money raised goes into securing the Grid plot, tailgate essentials, and as much beer/food that we can afford. We send all of the tailgate details through our newsletter and Facebook group before each home game.
When the Bearcats are away The Den has you covered at The Growler House. It’s less than 3 miles from Nippert Stadium in Walnut Hills. The Growler House has 30 taps, a huge selection of cans/bottles, and select wines if beer isn’t your thing. They have something for everyone! When the Bearcats are on the road, The Den calls The Growler House home.
Taking in the scenes on Sigma Sigma Commons is a must on Bearcats gamedays. It is, by far, the densest and most active tailgate scene in Clifton. It’s been about a decade since The Grid tailgate was born, and every season it gains popularity. We are expecting the energy to build and come to a crescendo for Homecoming through (hopefully) the conference championship. Get out of your homes and come tailgate with The Den this fall!
